Town Race #1

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

A few photos from last Saturday’s F’banks Town Race Opener.  With the near -20 temps, the goal of the day for most everyone was just to ski no faster than breathing through a neck warmer, balaclava or face mask would allow.  Despite the cold, conditions were fairly fast, so many folks chose to skate the freestyle race.

Getting Strong

The Scene

The Scene on Halloween

It has been an impressive transformation over the past couple of years as the athletes in the Comp Team have gotten significantly stronger from when FXC was in its infancy.  I guess that’s what happens.  It is really nice as a coach to just be able to sit back, watch and be impressed from time to time.  It is probably also an indication to reexamine what we’re doing and see if there are other areas we need to focus.

Right now we are working on changing all the strength work from the summer and fall into strength on skis.  That means more motions that mimic skiing and a lot of faster movements in the strength room.  Oh, and a bunch of skiing and specific strength too (lest we forget what we’re really after).
